Stories to change the world: The role of Impact Producers
BAFTA albert have announced a new programme, The Impact Producer Accelerator Programme, to raise awareness for impact production, develop and up-skill producers and creatives as impact producers, and catalyse social and environmental change through screen content.
To celebrate the launch, BAFTA albert CEO Jane Millichip was joined by Director Richard Curtis (Love Actually) and Director Damon Gameau (Future Council) at a special event at BAFTA 195 Piccadilly to discuss the important role of the Impact Producer and the opportunities it presents to create real impact and shape culture.
“What the impact producer does, is say, what is the value in this film beyond entertainment? How can we actually use it to create or impact culture?” Damon Gameau
“Our industry can change and can take on board new ways of operating. Think about diversity in casting, intimacy co-ordination, and then sustainability officers… again that didn’t exist seven years ago. We can change, we can progress and I think this is something where it needs to be a part of things…" Richard Curtis
As advocates for screen content that drives action and creates impact, both Directors shared their professional experiences, hopes for the future of the screen industry and the opportunities impact production holds for creating positive social change.
