Can you name the species of trees on the street where you live, or the birdsong that wakes you each morning? Do you know where your water comes from, or what food is grown locally and by whom?

Regeneration starts with a connection to place. Here are 10 questions that will help you connect deeper to your local area and see it through a new lens. This is the begining of the process of regeneration.

Learning about where you live

1) What is the traditional land, language group, clan or nation, you live on?

2) Do you know an Aboriginal Dreaming Story of how the lands and waterways were created? Or a story of a creator spirit that shows up in this landscape?

3) What trees grow here?

4) What animals reside here?

5) Are there any migratory birds that visit? What times of year can you see them?

6) Where does your water come from? Can you find it on a map?

7) What food, and how much of it, is grown in your area?

8) What are some of the different places in your community that you can buy food from in your local area?

9) What things are in season right now?

10) Do you know any of your local organic or regenerative farmers?

As Bill Reed from Regenesis says,

‘We can’t save the world, we can only save places.’
