Overview

The 2040 journey began with award-winning director Damon Gameau who, motivated by concerns about the planet his 4-year-old daughter would inherit, embarked on a global journey to meet innovators leading the way to a better future. In the making of the film, he spoke with over 100 children aged 6-11 years old from 7 different locations around the world. These children shared their concerns, hopes and ideas for the future they want to inherit. These interviews guided Damon’s journey to discover solutions that could help create that future.

2040 is a story of hope that looks at the very real possibility that humanity could reverse global warming and improve the lives of every living thing in the process. It is a positive vision of what ‘could be’, that will give your students hope for the future.

Curriculum resources

We partnered with the curriculum experts at Cool Australia to build a comprehensive package of units of work for upper primary and secondary. These free lesson plans are learning recipes for teachers that utilise short clips from the film to support classroom learning, providing step-by-step instructions, student workshops and engaging content.

The units have been mapped to the Australia, New Zealand, US, UK and Irish school curriculums.

Educational screenings

Teachers in Australia and New Zealand:

If your school or institution has a ClickView subscription, you can access 2040 on the ClickView platform.

If you do not have access to ClickView, you can purchase an educational licence to screen the film to your class and request a streaming link to share with your students. Please complete the Host a Screening form on our website and our team will be in touch to assist you.

The educational licence is for primary and secondary schools who wish to utilise the film as a learning tool or host on-site screenings for the school community.

The School Action Toolkit is a comprehensive resource that covers key information about the film and the educational resources, as well as being loaded with tips to guide you through planning a successful and sustainable screening event.

There is also a Take Action chapter which outlines personal and collective actions you can share with students, staff and parents. A comprehensive Action Planning Guide will walk you through a ‘whole school approach’ process for defining and planning sustainability and regenerative initiatives.
